The Hills is a step closer to having its own version of a Roman colosseum, with the announcement work on Bella Vista Farm Park's amphitheatre outdoor stage has begun.

The Hills mayor Michelle Byrne said the park has gone from being "a beautiful yet dilapidated old house and yard to being one of our premier local event destinations”

Completion of this stage would further bolster the park’s reputation as a performing arts venue, she said.

“The Sydney Country Music Festival and Shakespeare in the Park are two of the major events that have found a special home at the farm park," Cr Byrne said.

A council spokesman said $123,500 of funding for the $500,000 project was secured by Baulkham Hills state MP David Elliott, who helped Mayor Byrne turn the first sod on the project

The project is due to be completed by the end of this year.
