Hornsby Council has emailed all registered pool owners in the shire, informing them their pool will be inspected in line with NSW government legislation.
Pool owners can have their pool inspected by a private company or council will do it for the government-imposed fee of $150.
Hornsby mayor Steve Russell denied this was a money-making venture.
He said the annual income from inspections was $145,000 while the annual cost was $297,000, ‘‘leaving the shire’s ratepayers significantly out of pocket’’.
