KIDS can reflect on our country’s rich history at Fagan Park in Galston these school holidays.
The Friends — volunteers who help with the maintenance and restoration of the park’s Netherby Homestead and rural museums — will open the heritage area on Sunday, giving visitors a chance to imagine life as it was early last century.
Visitors can see working displays of vintage vehicles and machinery, said Ian Browning, Fagan Park’s honorary museum curator.
‘‘New pieces include a 1940s McCormick-deering tractor that joins its mate, already in our collection,’’ Mr Browning said.
‘‘They both represent those that were in the machinery pool — in the Galston-Arcadia district, specifically — in World War II.
‘‘The tractors were operated by land army girls because of the shortage of manpower due to the numbers who’d enlisted.
‘‘We’ve also completed the restoration of a sulky donated to us by Galston High School.
‘‘This sulky belonged to the Wadell family, who were pioneers of the district.
‘‘It’s been completely stripped and repainted.’’
A new grandfather clock, donated by a Friend, will be on display in the homestead.
Other attractions will include a blacksmithing display and hot air engines.
A parade of vehicles will travel through the park at noon.
■ Sunday, September 28, 9am-4pm, Fagan Park, Galston. Details: $5 a vehicle.
