Rumours are persisting that George and Amal Clooney have purchase an island estate on the River Thames in England.
The newlyweds reportedly closed on Aberlash House for an undisclosed sum less than a fortnight after their wedding, according to the New York Daily News.
The 17th-century estate was listed on Sotheby's International Realty in June last year for £7.5 million ($13.8 million) according to the Wall Street Journal.
British banker Omar Bayoumi, the previous owner of the Georgian manor, confirmed he had sold the place.
However he told the Reading Chronicle "I'm afraid I can't comment" when asked if he'd sold the estate to the newlyweds.
Ablerlash House is only an hour's drive from Downton Abbey's Highclere Castle.
The the grade-II property is set on 2.2 hectares of secluded grounds and situated in the village of Sonning, 64 kilometres west of London and just 70 kilometres from Heathrow Airport.
The main house has nine to 10 bedrooms and eight bathrooms, six reception rooms, a library, and a wine cellar.
On the grounds there is a self-contained guest cottage as well as staff quarters, and a wet boathouse with a number of moorings.
The estate has plenty of modern trimmings, too, including a gym, a spa and steam room, and a high-tech CCTV security system.
Bayoumi told the Wall Street Journal he was initially attracted to the estate by "the romance and exclusivity of owning the largest residential island in the Thames".
The London banker said as well as "the beauty of the house and grounds", the proximity to London and Heathrow was a key decider in the purchase.
Bayoumi said he made extensive renovations to the old estate.
"We have restored the house, while taking the opportunity to add sophisticated modern facilities and technology, the aim being to combine the best of old and new. Similarly, the interior decoration combines antiques with modern and '60s pieces," Bayoumi said.
While residents of Sonning are used to regular celebrity sightings, a number told The Telegraph they were surprised to hear the Clooney's had chosen their village to reside in.
"It was the vicar of our local church who told me," Trishaws Redrup, 78, told The Telegraph. "But to be honest I couldn't quite believe it. Why Sonning?
"It's a lovely place, on the river, but I can't imagine he'll find much time to spend here - what with all his work in America."
Some of the women in the village said they hoped the Hollywood star and his barrister wife would involve themselves in village life if they made the move.
Marisol Frost told the newspaper: "It's nice that he has chosen Sonning and we will make them very welcome."
Sarah Hele, 40, agreed with her friend.
"We are a small, friendly community where people get involved. It's a great place," Hele said.
"We have the village show every year and the Scarecrow hunt every two years. The village rounders match is also great fun and the school children do a lovely nativity play in the local church."
Local mechanic Matthew Dyer said the couple were sure to love the village.
"It will great to have a bit of Hollywood glamour round here and I'm sure Clooney and his wife will love the place," Dyer said.
"There's a top notch restaurant, the French Horn, a nice pub and its nice and rural."
