When hip-hop collective One Day threw a party on a Sunday in February last year they were tapping into something Sydney was crying out for.
Nick Bryant-Smith, who also goes by the name Solo from Horrorshow, admits the concept of playing music so people can have a good time isn't exactly revolutionary, but they wanted something different.
"We just thought 'wouldn't it be cool to create a more social event, where people can come together, hang out and dance, that's not just about us'," says Bryant-Smith.
The group of friends – comprising Horrorshow, Spit Syndicate, Jackie Onassis and Joyride – met in high school and have spent the past five or six years touring and putting out tunes.
"We just felt like Sydney was crying out for something like this," says Bryant-Smith.
And One Day has struck a chord with the city.
Almost two years on the number of party-goers is still rising every month – and the same faces keep returning.
A failed musician by his own admission, photographer Cole Bennetts has been attending the One Day parties for the past year.
The 32-year old Rozelle local decided to document his fellow One Day party-goers and celebrate their individuality.
"I just wanted people who had a bit of colour, people who went to a bit of effort to get to that ghetto fabulous," Bennetts said.
The One Day crew will gather this Sunday at The Vic in Enmore.
