What took Kevin Moses an entire season to achieve last season has almost been reached in a little over four months this term.
But as he eyes a tasty entree before the Magic Millions main course with Zoutentant in a fortnight, Moses reckons he has just been "lucky".
"You've just got to be lucky to get the horses," said Moses, who will saddle up Plutorius in the listed Tattersalls Club Cup at Randwick on New Year's Day. "And if you look I've probably had more seconds than anyone being unlucky in a few of the races.
"I got that mare [My Sabeel] that was going no good with Joe Pride and she's won a heap of prize money - and I've got some other nice ones coming along too."
The former champion jockey and small-time trainer is more than happy to admit there is a little bit of extra satisfaction in his stable surge over the past few months after an unwanted reminder from the Australian Turf Club about the winners-to-boxes performance criteria.
But this season Moses' Randwick stable has only had eight winners but is still is on the verge of crashing through the $600,000 prizemoney barrier, the same mark he only just crept past in the dying days of the 2013-14 season.
At the heart of the Moses renaissance was Toy Show Quality winner My Sabeel, while Gold Coast-bound Zoutenant has swelled the coffers after his win in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic.
While the colt will demand most of the stable's attention leading up to the $2 million sprint on January 10, unsung hero Plutorius can add another stakes success before then via the listed Tattersalls Club Cup.
Moses' three-kilogram claiming apprentice Koby Jennings urged Plutorius to victory in midweek company at Warwick Farm on Christmas Eve, but will be forced to surrender the ride to Brenton Avdulla, fresh from his Canterbury double on Saturday, for the 2400-metre feature.
"If it still had [Jennings'] weight I would probably still put him on and I wouldn't mind about claiming because I think he rides well," Moses said. "I think [Plutorius] should only get 54 [kilograms] in a race like that.
"I think it is [a nice race for Plutorius]. He's been going through his grades and has been running OK. We didn't know if he could get a mile-and-a-half. Most of the breed, the father [Holy Roman Emperor] doesn't get that far, but he got it the other day and it doesn't look an overly hard race after you take the top one out.
"The rest of them don't look that good on paper and I'm very happy with him. Everything is going well with him."
Chris Waller has four of the nine nominations, which have been extended until Monday morning, headed by Boxing Day's Summer Cup winner I'm Imposing. But Sydney's premier trainer indicated the Villiers Stakes runner-up would most likely head for a spell after his group 3 success.
It leaves the prospect of Waller propping up a tiny Tattersalls Club Cup field, with Multilateral, defending champion Permit and Hoylonny his other three entries.
