He was a group 1-winning jockey and trainer, now Bernie Howlett has the trifecta as a group 1 breeder.
He could also have Australia's next sprinting star frolicking in his paddocks on the outskirts of Canberra soon.
Howlett's Berant Park is just a dot on the map between Hall and Murrumbateman, but it's become a big deal in the world of racing courtesy of Brazen Beau's rapid rise to fame.
Brazen Beau beat the world's best sprinters in emphatic fashion to win the group 1 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington on March 14.
Next he'll take on Europe's best at Royal Ascot in June, before beginning his breeding career as a stallion for mega-stud Darley, owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, who also owns the Godolphin stables.
Howlett predicted he could have more sprint stars on the way.
He's already bred a full sister to Brazen Beau out of his broodmare Sansadee, whom he also bred and raced.
Sansadee's best effort was third in the group 3 Black Opal Stakes in 2003 before she moved to the breeding barn.
Howlett sold Brazen Beau for $70,000 two years ago and the three-year-old colt has won almost $1.4 million in prizemoney, under the guidance of top Sydney trainer Chris Waller.
He also sold his full sister Ruby Dee for $65,000, who is unraced with Waller.
Both were sold before Brazen Beau announced his arrival as a sprinter, but with Sansadee once again in foal to I Am Invincible the future sibling could attract a lot more at the sales.
Howlett said he'd bred the horse to sell and had no regrets about not keeping him.
"I was confident the horse would race well, but to see him go to group 1 level was probably a little bit too far, but he was certainly a very precocious colt as a yearling," he said.
"You look forward to [the next foal], but it's nothing to get carried away with yet, you've got to get them on the ground first.
"You just can't get ahead of yourself, all you can do is just hope it follows the same path, but that's only hope.
"I've been around too long to get carried away like that. When you're in racing there's probably more downside than upside."
Howlett has been in racing since 1952. As a jockey he won the group 1 Sydney Cup twice and rode in most of the big races, like the Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate.
His first Sydney Cup was with On Line in 1959 and then he saluted on Sharply - ahead of the legendary Tulloch in 1961 - the win he rates the highlight of his career.
Howlett turned to training in 1964. He won the group 1 Doomben 10,000 with Suntain in 1996 and, more recently, claimed back-to-back Canberra Cups with Macknuckle.
Now Brazen Beau has taken the 76-year-old to the top level of Australian racing as a breeder, not only winning the Newmarket, but the group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes in November as well.
"I've been very fortunate in life to be successful as a jockey in group 1 races, I've trained group 1 and now I've bred one.
"They've all been a big thrill, but when you're young it's probably a bigger thrill - as you get older you get a bit more hardened."
