THE great thing about winter is being snug and warm inside.
It's time to snuggle up with a good book, a hot cuppa and take it easy.
But there are a few ingredients that will help ensure the atmosphere is cosy and relaxed.
The essential ingredient is a tidy house.
It's impossible to wind down when you're surrounded by clutter, so set aside next weekend to have a good clear out, find a permanent home for everything and make sure mess will be minimised from now on.
The crackling flames of a gas or wood fire in the living room will add ambience, but if you don't have one, don't worry.
Open the curtains and blinds so you can enjoy the view of falling rain or autumn leaves in the garden.
Invest in some new cushions and a fluffy throw rug.
In the bedroom, also open the blinds and curtains (during the day) and update the linen to go all white or cream. Add a comfy wingback chair, some books and candles — and ditch the telly.
Bathrooms can also be cosy havens on a cold evening.
Just add some scented candles, pretty new (white) towels and a stool to sit them all on.
