A leather lounge suites isn't cheap to buy so it makes sense to extend its life as long as possible.
Professional cleaning, protection and colour tinting can help improve the look and durability of leather lounges.
Leather specialist and owner of Advanced Leather Care Janette Colema, said it was important to use a professional to avoid long-term damage.
"A product not specifically designed for leather could have solvents that break down the top coat of the leather quickly, leading to deterioration of the colour coat prematurely," she said. "A leather specialist will use products that contain fats and nutrients to replenish the moisture lost due to use and cleaning, preventing drying and cracking of the leather."
Ms Coleman said other problems she had seen in her 25 years in the business were people not taking care of the leather and not keeping lounges out of the sun.
"I recommend customers regularly wipe down the lounge with a damp face washer and apply a good protection product every month.
"On top of this, the lounge will need a professional clean every one-two years."
Another common problem is cracking of the leather but that too can be fixed with colour tinting.
