WINDOW film has long been used to provide privacy and protection from the sun. But it has some quirky other uses.
"We're just scratching the surface when it comes to the many uses of window film," says Ally Cronan, Window Film Association of Australia and New Zealand president.
"Modern films last longer and have greater thicknesses, colour choices and textures before, and multi-purpose films can solve many problems in the one hit."
Try these window film hacks:
■Got a boring entry? Use a decorative window film to create a new look on the front door or side lights.
■If your dog barks at anything that dares to pass the front window, use decorative or frosted window film on the lower windows to obscure their vision.
■Stop birds being injured or killed by flying into windows by installing a window film that appears opaque from the outside but still allows a clear view from the inside.
■Office cupboards with glass doors can do double duty as whiteboards when overlaid with white opaque window film.
■Glass railings or balustrades are popular for balconies, pools and staircases. Adding a layer of window film (pictured above) can create privacy.
■If your fish tank sits in direct sunlight for some of the day, a clear window film can help keep the tank clean by retarding algae growth.
