The Benevolent Society is cutting the apron strings of its award winning Taste Food Tours program.
The program, which holds tours at Granville and Harris Park, now trades as an independent social enterprise called Taste Cultural Food Tours.
Chief executive Joanne Toohey said the tours were one of the society's "most innovative community initiatives".
"We're thrilled that it has matured to the point of being able to go it alone," she said.
"This initiative had its roots in Bankstown, where locals told us they wanted the area to be known for its strengths rather than its difficulties."'
Taste Food Tours manager Lesley Unsworth will continue to lead the enterprise and to develop partnerships.
"We now work with more than 200 local businesses and run 20 tours in 15 town centres across eight local government areas," Ms Unsworth said.
Anyone who books a tour or buys a gift voucher before July 26 will get a 20 per cent discount.
Tours coming up include:
■ Granville: Arabic and Indian Spice tour on August 22 from 10.30am.
■ Harris Park: Little India tour on September 19 from 10.30am. Cost (for either): $76 for adults, $60 concession.
