A MALE staffy found wandering the streets of Vineyard with a massive head trauma on Sunday remains in a critical but stable condition.
‘‘I think the internal bleeding into his abdomen has stopped at this stage," Christina Zhu, the senior vet at RSPCA Veterinary Hospital in Yagoona, told the Courier this morning.
‘‘He’s still mentally a little bit depressed, which could be a combination of his injuries and that he’s on pretty strong medication.
‘‘He’s been stable overnight."
RSPCA inspectors and vets are still looking for answers — and a potential owner — after a member of the public found the staffy.
Initial reports suggest his wound may have been inflicted by a sharp heavy object or blunt force trauma to the dog’s face, perhaps by an axe or tow bar.
‘‘I wouldn’t operate this soon after a head injury, but he will require surgery for his head injuries at some point"

The dog was picked up on Sunday on Victoria Street, near O’Connell Street, and taken to the Animal Referral Hospital in Homebush.
He was then re-located to the RSPCA Veterinary Hospital in Yagoona for further treatment.
The dog isn’t micro-chipped and wasn’t wearing identification when he was found.
It is unclear at this time whether the injuries are cruelty-related or are the result of an accident.
‘‘I haven’t heard any updates about anyone coming forward,’’ Ms Zhu said.
‘‘I wouldn’t operate this soon after a head injury, but he will require surgery for his head injuries at some point.’’
The matter has been reported to The Hills Local Area Command.
