Several businesses with a fitness focus will be under one roof promoting healthy living at the first Hills District Health and Fitness Expo.
On at the Castle Hill RSL on August 30, the free event will have everything from family martial arts, aerial yoga to gym and physiotherapist participation.
Organiser AnnMaree Skelton, owner of Seven Hills-based sporting goods store Keep Sweatin, said the expo will have something for everyone.
‘‘Fitness is not ‘one size fits all’,’’ the mother-of-three said.
‘‘Not everyone likes the gym or running, so it’s all about finding what suits you and something that you can maintain long term.’’
The idea of creating the expo was to champion businesses in The Hills, Mrs Skelton said.
‘‘There are other larger business expos in Sydney but after talking to other Hills Districts business mums we really wanted to showcase our local business.’’
Glenhaven’s Karen Newham, owner of Norwest-based indoor cycling facility Pelotone, is one of more than 20 stallholders at the event.
‘‘I was on board with the event as soon as I heard about it, ’’she said.
‘‘It’s tough out there for small businesses because people’s first point of call is to consider those big brands.
‘‘But I think people are now looking for something more and don’t want to be treated as a number anymore.’’
At Pelotone, she runs classes where she combines the ‘‘fun part of spin with science’’.
‘‘Our classes use professional and correct cycling techniques and are put together in consultation with physiologist to make sure people are not exerting themselves,’’ she said.
At the expo, Pelotone will have a few different professional bikes for people to try out. There will also be demonstrations from other participants.
All entrants will go into a lucky door prize draw for the chance to win a Garmin fitness tracker and there is a goodie bag for the first 50 people to attend. On from 10am to 4pm.
