Eight teens meet in a snowy mansion a year after two girls mysteriously disappear there, leading to a series of dark events that could kill them all.
It sounds like the setup to a 90s horror movie, and that's pretty much what Until Dawn is. An interactive, schlocky drama, it puts the stress of decision-making and escape onto the viewer, challenging their decisions and reactions rather than their gaming skills, to exhilarating effect.
The narrative does eventually spin out of control but it's engaging, and surprising, throughout. Though silly, a strong cast and good scares make for great interactive horror.
Until Dawn is out Wednesday August 26 on Playstation 4. It is classified R18+ and has a price of $79.95 on PlayStation store, between $94 and $100 at retailers.
