An armed man has died from a self-inflicted gunshot in Young.
NSW Police said Cootamundra Local Area Command officers spoke with the man in Cloete Street about 11.45pm on Friday after he was seen with a firearm.
The man sustained a gunshot wound a short time later and died at the scene.
No police firearms were discharged and no police officers were injured, NSW Police said.
An independent Hume Local Area Command critical incident team will investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
The information will be given to the coroner, who will determine the cause of death and the events leading to the man's death.
