Two trains remain held up at Riverstone train station after a man was struck by one of them this morning.
A police media spokesman has confirmed a man as deceased under the Richmond-bound train.
"I can tell you exactly what time it was — 9.20am — because I rang my mum straight after it happened and burst into tears," Sarah Singles told the Rouse Hill Courier.
"I felt the brakes slam, and then the body underneath me.
"They [train station staff] told us there's been an accident.
"Later, they told us there's been a fatality and could we please come to the front of the train."
That was because the train doors wouldn't open, Ms Singles explained, pointing to the T1 Western Line train sitting stationary.
The train has blocked Garfield Road. Also sitting stationary on the platform is a city-bound train. A passenger told the Courier both trains would remain there at least another few hours.
Ms Single had been en route to university to sit an animal science exam when the accident occurred this morning.
"I'm not going anymore," she said.
She said another lady told her she was on her way to the movies with her grandson. One man slept through the entire incident.
Jan Mitchell lives a few hundred metres from the train station and came to see what had happened after noticing the trains hadn't left the platform.
"This is the first time I've seen anything like it," she said.
Ms Mitchell has lived opposite the station about 50 years.
"I'm shocked ... I feel so sorry for the [train] driver]," she said. Ms Singles nodded in solemn agreement.
An Ambulance NSW spokeswoman said they were called to Riverstone Station about 9.30am, "to an incident involving a person and a vehicle".
No further information is known about the deceased at this time.
The T1 Western Line remains partially closed between Mulgrave and Schofields due to this morning's fatality at Riverstone railway station.
Buses are operating a replacement service between these stations and a shuttle train service is running between Mulgrave and Richmond.
Garfield Road remains closed at Railways Terrace in Riverstone as a result of the incident.
Motorists needing to cross the railway line are advised to divert via Richmond Road, Quakers Hill Parkway, Sunnyholt Road, Old Windsor Road and Windsor Road.
Motorists should allow additional travel time.
