Power quits Giants

Greater Western Sydney Giants co-captain Luke Power has called it quits on his AFL career.

Power was one of three Giants players who shared the captains role in 2012.

The three-time premiership-wining player and former All-Australian conceded his playing days were over.

‘‘I was pretty happy with what we were able to achieve this year and the best thing for me is what is best for the group going forward,’’ he said.

‘‘I think it’s the right time.

‘‘A year ago when I retired from the Brisbane Lions I probably wasn’t equipped to go into a role in coaching or in football.

‘‘Under the tutelage of a lot of people this year I’ve learned a lot about the game, a lot about myself and about teaching young players.’’

The 32-year-old midfielder played 282 games for the Brisbane Lions and 20 games for GWS.

He was pick number five in the 1997 AFL draft.
