There's just one part of the Nishi building that remains unused, and it's only fitting that they've created an event hip enough for New Acton to use it.
For the next 12 months, the area tucked behind the lifts to the private residences of Nishi will be home to Fix and Make – a series of talks and workshops by creatives from all over the world.
Like the name suggests, all the events have a focus on fixing and making things, in an effort to reduce waste going to landfill.
Program director Andy Marks said the events were "inspired by the unique handmade artisan undertones that are echoed throughout each element of [Hotel Hotel]'s carefully considered design".
"By design, Hotel Hotel questions mass production and mass consumption and the Fix and Make program responds to this, bringing different people together to actively question our consumption of and relationships with objects."
Events include learning to whittle your own long-life chopsticks, make toys from trash, repurpose an old piece of clothing, invent your own instrument, or turn old jeans into a utility apron.
The program kicks off this Saturday November 7 with the free Fix and Make markets, which will have live making, food, art and music at the Nishi Gallery from 10am-2pm.
