Hills Hazard Reduction burn goes wrong

Fire contained

Fire and Rescue NSW had to call for helicopter assistance on Wednesday when a hazard reduction burn in Baulkham Hills turned dangerous.

Police said several streets were blanketed in smoke when a burn near Ted Horwood Reserve jumped containment lines.

Several spot fires broke out close to residential housing but were contained shortly after.

Police said despite some concerns for local residents no property was damaged.

Break and enter charge

A Castle Hill man was charged with break, enter and steal on Tuesday after breaking into an empty house.

Police said the property owners spotted two men in Castle Hill at 7.20am and chased one of them into nearby bushland on Telfer Road.

After a short chase a man, 41, was stopped and sat down to wait for police.

Another man dressed in a fluorescent shirt and dark hat ran away.

Police will allege the two men were attempting to steal copper from the house.

The man was conditionally bailed to appear in Parramatta Local Court on October 17.

Break-in attempt

Police are investigating an attempted break and enter at a Castle Hill house on Wednesday.

Police said someone gained entry to the Cheriton Avenue via the kitchen window between 12.30am and 9.30am.

Several marks were left on the window.

Police said it was not clear whether any property was stolen.

L-plater fined

An L-plater was fined $1093 last month after police spotted him driving without a licensed driver.

Police said the youth, 17, did have his mother in the car but she only had a learner’s permit.

He was also fined fined for not displaying his L plates and not carrying his learner’s permit.

Police suspended his learner’s permit for three months.

Caught speeding

A Castle Hill woman has lost her licence for three months after police caught her driving 30km/h over the speed limit on September 26.

The woman, 41, was clocked driving 88km/h in a 50km/h zone on Old Castle Hill Road, Castle Hill.

She was fined $799 and docked five demerit points.
