A man caught driving more than 100km/h over the speed limit has lost his license, while separate road accidents claimed the lives of two other drivers on NSW roads.
The 27-year-old man allegedly reached speeds up to 201 km/h in a Holden Commodore before he was stopped by police at Braidwood, in the Southern Tablelands.
Patrolling police had seen the car travelling at speed about 8.45am on Saturday. They followed it onto Araluen Road, where it allegedly reached 201km/h in the sign-posted 100km/h zone.
The driver was stopped and issued a field court attendance notice for driving at a speed dangerous to the public and exceeding speed over 45km/h. His license was immediately suspended for six months and he will face Queanbeyan Local Court on March 9.
Police are also investigating two fatal single-vehicle accidents on Saturday evening.
The driver of a VW Golf died after losing control on a bend on Kyogle Road at Uki, in the Tweed Valley. The car mounted the kerb, careened down an embankment and landed upside down in a creek.
Witnesses rushed to assist, managing to free the 72-year-old female passenger. But the 67-year-old male driver was trapped underwater and was unconscious when pulled from the vehicle.
Police and witnesses tried to resuscitate him but he died at the scene. The woman was treated by ambulance paramedics before being taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for observation.
About half an hour later, at 6pm, police and emergency services were called to Ardlethan, near Wagga Wagga, following reports of a crash. They found a Holden Commodore crashed into a tree and the 48-year-old male driver dead inside.
Initial inquiries indicate the car was travelling north on Tallimba-Ardlethan Road when the driver lost control on a bend and crashed.
Meanwhile, a man will face court charged with high-range drink-driving after he crashed into a convenience store at Rhodes early on Sunday morning.
Police were called to Walker Street just after 3am and found the three male occupants of the car with minor injuries. The 21-year-old driver returned a positive breath test and was taken to Burwood Police Station, where a breath analysis allegedly returned a reading of 0.162.
He is due to face Burwood Local Court on February 25.
