TALENT on a grand scale will be up in lights at this year's Schools Spectacular — and this young star-in-the-making will be centre stage.
After gruelling try-outs, Kellyville's Phoebe Gardner (pictured) will represent her school in the annual performing arts showcase next month.
Fifty-nine artists were chosen to perform.
A total of 3600 students from 400 schools auditioned for the production of music, song and dance.
Students aged from seven to 18 will shine at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, where they will participate in four shows.
This year's theme is "Our Time".
Phoebe, 15, is a year 9 student at Sydney Distance Education High School. She got a scholarship as part of the Sydney Conservatorium Rising Stars Program and became a member of the Performing Arts Unit Orchestra this year. The prize-winning violinist also composes music and has won awards in the Australian National Songwriting Competition. This is her first Schools Spectacular, where she will perform a duet — Vivaldi’s Summer.
‘‘I’ve been playing the violin since I was four, but have never been in something of this scale before,’’ she said.
Dates: Friday, November 23 to Saturday, November 24.
