A Bicton stand up paddle board class had be cancelled on Saturday after a massive run of salmon sent the usually calm waters of the Swan River into flapping turmoil.
A video posted on Facebook by the Elemental SUP stand up paddle board school, showing hundreds of salmon flapping close to the shore at Blackwall Reach, has gone viral within 24 hours.
The video has garnered almost a quarter of a million views and has been shared over 3000 times.
Perth's coast is experiencing one of its most successful salmon runs in recent seasons, with reports piling up that coastal waters are brimming with schools of salmon.
One commenter on Facebook said "There will be 20,000 people fishing in the river tomorrow".
Despite not being particularly nice eating fish salmon are highly sought after by sport anglers due to their fighting tactics, according to Fishing Western Australia.
About two weeks ago a local fisherman at a popular fishing spot in Woodman Point labelled the tactics of some anglers "disgraceful" as images emerged online of dozens of the salmon lying in pools of blood at Ammo Jetty.
Ammo Jetty along with Rous Head in Fremantle are known hot spots to catch salmon.
