It was a fatal ambush at a busy Sydney shopping centre that took just five seconds to carry out.
New CCTV footage has emerged of the moment a hooded gunman ran up to Sydney crime figure Walid "Wally" Ahmad as he sat at a Bankstown cafe last month and fired multiple bullets into his back before sprinting away.
The security footage, obtained by Fairfax Media, reveals just how brutal and swift the underworld execution was at Bankstown Central on April 29.
The gunman, who is dressed all in black and who is still at large, is shown entering the camera frame and running up to an outdoor table where Ahmad, a convicted killer and known standover man, was sitting with his associate Nael "Kojak" Halid, and another friend.
Ahmad's friend sees the approaching gunman, starts to stand up and pushes over their table.
But Ahmad, who is sitting with his back to his approaching attacker, has no time to react before the gunman fires.
Ahmad, a father of six, collapses to the ground, blood immediately visible on his white T-shirt.
Five seconds after entering the camera's frame, the gunman is already running out of it, having carried out his deadly task.
Police believe the gunman fled in a white Mercedes that was later discovered burnt out in nearby Greenacre.
Ahmad's friend is shown in the footage immediately making a phone call while leaning over Ahmad and clutching his arm.
The gunman appeared to be targeting Ahmad, but Mr Halid and Hoda Darwiche, an innocent woman with no connection to the men and who was sitting at a neighbouring cafe table, were also caught in the crossfire.
Both were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to their legs.
In the moments after the shooting, a number of people emerge from the shopping centre, clearly shocked at the bloody scene confronting them.
Ms Darwiche is also shown clearly in pain, and is yelling out as she slides off her seat and onto the ground.
Ahmad had been well known to police for more than a decade as a prominent figure in south-western Sydney's criminal scene.
At the time of his death, he was the subject of at least one extortion investigation and a murder probe.
In 2005, Ahmad was jailed over the fatal shooting of Mayez Dany three years earlier.
Police had wanted to speak to Ahmad over a fatal shooting at his smash repair shop at nearby Condell Park a few weeks before his death. Safwan Charbaji, 32, was shot in the head and chest and died in that confrontation on Ilma Street.
Police on Friday appealed for anyone with information about the identity of the gunman to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
