Forget bananas in pyjamas and zucchinis in bikinis — Nude Food Day is here.
School pupils and workers are encouraged to add fresh food and eliminate unnecessary wrapping from their lunches today, October 17, in support of the day.
Nude food breakfasts and lunch time exercise classes are among the activities workplaces participating in the day have registered as part of an inaugural ‘‘Nudie Run’’.
Schools will also teach pupils the about the importance of good nutrition and lessening waste, with the message Nude Food = health bodies + healthy planet.
Dietitians Association of Australia spokeswoman Kate Gudorf said the day was an opportunity to emphasise to Australians the importance of eating less processed foods and help to kick start healthier eating habits.
‘‘For some people healthy eating is a priority, and for others it’s not as high on the list,’’ she said.
‘‘Sometimes it takes a day like this for people to consider their options.’’
Ms Gudorf said nude food options for children’s lunch boxes include reusable water bottles, yoghurt in reusable containers, or bananas, hard boiled eggs and grapes, which don’t need extra packaging.
She said vegetable gardens were another good way to introduce fresh produce to children’s diets.
‘‘It’s a really good opportunity to connect with where our food comes from,’’ she said.
