How Jarryd Hayne’s Gold Coast Titans contract compares to Aussie sports superstars

It's understood the deal could average out at at least $1.2 million per season when third-party arrangements are factored in, catapulting Hayne towards the top of league's rich-list.

In his previous stint with the Parramatta Eels, Hayne reportedly earned close to $1 million a year.

When he switched codes to join the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL, he was on a three-year contract worth a total of $US1.57 million ($2.06 million).

Here we take a look at how Hayne's Gold Coast contract compares to those signed by some of Australia's other highest paid sporting stars.

Melbourne Storm's Cameron Smith is reported to be raking in about $1.5 million a year, taking into account his contract and third-party payments.

Johnathan Thurston from the Queensland Cowboys is reportedly on $1.4 million, South Sydney's Greg Inglis $1.2 million, and Melbourne Storm's Billy Slater $1.1 million.

Australian cricket captain Steve Smith was on a $1.12 million base contract, including a retainer fee and captain bonus, with Cricket Australia in 2015/16. This was before he was paid match fees for appearing in any Test, one-day international or T20 international matches.

Australian cricketers can significantly boost their annual salaries playing in the Indian Premier League.

Six Australians this year hold IPL contracts worth more than $1 million. They are Smith, Mitchell Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, David Warner, Mitchell Starc and James Faulkner.

Shane Warne picked up the most lucrative contract for an Australian in IPL history, taking home $2.011 million in 2011.

In 2014, 13 Australian cricketers appeared on the BRW Top 50 Sports Earners list, led by Shane Watson ($4.5 million), Mitchell Johnson ($4.1 million), Michael Clarke ($4 million), David Warner ($3.8 million) and Steve Smith ($3.1 million).

Australian basketballer Andrew Bogut signed a three-year contract with the Golden State Warriors in the NBA in 2013, reportedly worth $US36 million ($47 million). 

This year, Matthew Dellavedova signed a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks reportedly worth $US38.4 million ($50.5 million) over four years.

Ben Simmons this year became the second Australian, behind Andrew Bogut, to become the number one pick in the NBA draft. The 19-year-old signed a four-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, worth $US26.6 ($35 million) over four years.

Four AFL players were paid more than $1 million a year in the 2015 season, with two of those players taking home more than $1.2 million, according to the AFL. Money earned via additional services agreements - but not third-party agreements independent of the player's club - were included in the AFL's figures.

While the highest-paid players were not named, AFL.com.au reported that Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett Jr and West Coast ruckman Nic Naitanui were thought to be on the list.

Socceroos star Tim Cahill is a free agent after his short-term contract with Chinese club Hangzhou Greentown expired last month. It's understood that Cahill last month reached an agreement in principle to sign with Melbourne City in the A-League for the upcoming season.

Sources told Fairfax Media that Cahill's minimum asking price to move to the A-League was $3 million while it has been reported the proposed deal with City could be worth as much as $4 million a season.

Australian F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo is reported to be earning  up to $6.4 million in 2016 under his contract with Red Bull, not including bonuses.
