IF RUNNING 10 kilometres seems a significant effort for charity, consider the commitment of Sydney's Brett Lehmann and nine mates, who cycled 1900kilometres from Brisbane to Melbourne last year.
The group spent two weeks riding an average of 150kilometres a day and raised $65,000 for Movember in support of men's health, specifically prostate cancer and mental health.
Many of those in the Rebel Sport Run4Fun presented by The Sun-Herald on Sunday, November 4, will also tackle the "Charity Challenge" and get going for a good cause.
Runners in the 10-kilometre or new three-kilometre event can nominate a Run4Fun partner charity, such as Movember, or another registered not-for-profit group.
The charity challenge phenomenon has taken off in the past decade, with participants in events such as The Sun-Herald City2Surf raising massive amounts. The annual run made $4.2 million this year.
Linking personal effort with helping others is a powerful motivator, said Lehmann, who raised $33,000.
Lehmann, whose father died of cancer aged 54, said the highlight of his ride was visiting men's sheds in country towns and connecting with men and their own health battles.
