Castle Hill showground will come alive with the Deepavali Fair on Saturday, October 23.

What better way to herald in the Hindu new year than with lights, dancing, music and lots of delicious food.

The 2016 Deepavali Fair will bring Castle Hill Showground to life as the ancient Hindu festival of light is celebrated in an explosion of colour.

The Council of Indian Australians president Praful Desai said he was very excited about the festival.

“There is still so much to to do, but it’s all falling into place,” Mr Desai said.

“We started organising the festival – getting sponsors initially –  in February, so it is exciting to see it all come together,” he said.

Mr Desai said that holding the festival in the Hills was a strategic decision.

“There have been Diwali festivals held in Parramatta and Blacktown, but there is a large Indian community in the Hills now,” he said.

“But, we don’t want to just attract Indians, but people from all cultural backgrounds.”

Mr Desai said a must-see feature of the festival will be the high-energy dancing performances.

“Everyone must join in the drumming! It’s very special.”

Signifying the beginning of the Hindu New Year, Mr Desai said Diwali was a special time for family bonding.

“It’s a time for looking forward into the future, wishing for a bright year ahead full of goodness and positivity,” he said.

“We want families to come out, have a wonderful day and enjoy all the attractions on offer. There will be something for everyone, from rides to food and cultural performance.

“And of course lights! The night will end with a wonderful fireworks display.”
