IF YOU suffer from allergies, it might be best to batten down the hatches tomorrow, October 20.
Weatherzone has predicted Sydney will have a “high pollen” count on Thursday.
The Weatherzone pollen index measures the potential for pollen to trigger allergic reactions in susceptible people.
According to the index, a very high rating means most sufferers of pollen allergies will experience symptoms on these days.
Very high level days are typically warm and dry, so the best precaution is to stay indoors away from sources of pollen.
Pollen levels in the atmosphere will be highest on hot days and on days when a dry wind is blowing.
Light rain overnight or during the early morning will also cause high pollen levels.
These are the days when sufferers will experience the telltale symptoms of a runny nose, watery eyes, itchy skin and nasal congestion.
The temperature is predicted to reach 23 degrees on Thursday, with possible showers.
Weatherzone states that several different allergens trigger allergies in people, with the most common being pollen, dust, mould and pets.
Weatherzone also offers the following timely tips to avoid allergies around the home:
- Clean surfaces regularly, to avoid the accumulation of dust.
- Avoid feather and down pillows.
- Don't hang sheets or clothing outside to dry on days of high pollen count.
- Avoid high pile carpets, as they offer places for dust and allergens to hide.
- Keep your pet away from bedrooms and off all furniture.
- Wash your pet weekly.
- Try to stay indoors on days of high pollen count.
- Avoid mowing lawns or wear a mask if it is unavoidable.
However, there is some better news to follow for Sydney residents.
The pollen forecast index will fall to a high rating on Friday, which means allergy symptoms are “unlikely to be severe” according to Weatherzone.
The index predicts a low rating on Saturday, with a low level of sufferers set to be affected by allergies on the day.
