Only three of the nine ministers pictured at a meeting of the Council of the Australian Governments (COAG) at Parliament House in Canberra remain in power, just two years after the photograph was taken on Friday, October 10, 2014.
From left to right:
- NT Chief Minister Adam Giles became the first Chief NT minister to lose his seat while in government in September 2016, after an ABC Four Corners episode revealed years of systemic abuse at an NT youth correctional facility;
- Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman, one of the few remaining incumbents, has recently brushed off speculation of an early election, despite only being elected in March 2014;
- WA Premier Colin Barnett, who assumed office in 2008, is set to face an election on March 11;
- NSW Premier Mike Baird today announced his resignation after less than two years at the helm;
- Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott, usurped by current PM Malcolm Turnbull in September 2015, had a less than 12 months left in office at the time of the COAG meeting;
- Ex-Queensland Premier Campbell Newman lost his seat to Labor in February 2015 after almost three years in power;
- Former Victorian Premier Denis Napthine had a mere two months left in office at the time of the meeting, succeeded by Labor MP Daniel Andrews in December 2014;
- Jay Weatherill, elected in 2011, remains the 45th Premier of South Australia;
- Katy Gallagher, although she is now a senator in federal Parliament, lost her position as ACT Chief Minister in December 2014.
