Johnny Yong Bosch got his start fighting giant bugs as Adam Park, the Black Ranger, Green Zeo and Green Turbo Ranger on ’90s superhero children’s television series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

It is a role that he would play for three and a half seasons on television, two motion pictures and two special guest appearances in future Power Rangers seasons.

This month, Yong Bosch will morph his way down under for Sydney’s popular Supanova Pop Culture Expo.

“I’m so excited to meet all the fans,” he said.

“I’m really curious to see which shows resonate with the Aussie fans, because it’s different everywhere I go.”

After Power Rangers, Yong Bosch became very involved in the world of voice over. His first major voice acting role was Vash the Stampede in Japanese manga series, Trigun.

He later went on to voice many other characters including Sasori in Naruto, Guren in Tenkai Knights, Artemis in Sailor Moon, Nagate in the Netflix Original Knights of Sidonia, Nate in Yokai Watch and many more.

A man of many talents, he is trained in a multitude of mixed martial arts, including Shaolin Kung Fu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a mix of Filipino martial arts.

“I’ve been doing it for over 20 years and I enjoy constantly developing my skills and understanding of the art,” he said.

“It’s sort of like a chess game you play – there’s a lot to it – mentally, physically and spiritually.”

The 41-year-old is also the frontman for his band Eyeshine.

“After Power Rangers I had some difficulties booking acting jobs. I either wasn’t Caucasian or Asian enough for the jobs,” he said.

“I went through a depression and wasn’t certain what I could do with my life. I had this guitar in my closet so I started to teach myself how to play and sing which bought me out of that depression.

“So I thought of the idea to create a band that would create a message of hope and help other people.”

Hoping to have a positive affect on others, Yong Bosch went on to produce 14 albums.

“I have a connection with all those people who either enjoy my music or roles that I’ve played,” he said.

“Supanova to me is a chance to meet my fans, who are like my extended family or friends from across the world.”

Guests appearing at the event include Steven Yeun from The Walking Dead and Thor from The Avengers, portrayed by megastar Chris Hemsworth.
