TOP JOB: The Hills Council interim general manager Michael Edgar will become the council's general manager on July 14.

MICHAEL Edgar has been appointed as The Hills Council’s general manager.

The council announced that Mr Edgar will stay on as general manager, after he was promoted to interim general manager in April.

He has worked in local government for 20 years and has been with The Hills Council for 12 years, and was council’s strategic planning group manager.

Mr Edgar was strongly linked to the top job after former general manager Dave Walker announced his resignation in January.

Continuing council’s strong growth and looking after local residents will be Mr Edgar’s main priorities as general manager.

“During my time as a senior executive at The Hills Council, I have established strong collaborative relationships with councillors, our community and staff based on trust, consistency and openness,” Mr Edgar said.

“I believe that great leadership is about the ability to demonstrate empathy, nurture constructive relationships, understand strategically where we are headed and act with clarity about the impacts of our decisions on the individual, the community and the region.

“The Hills by any measure is a high performing Council and when assessed against any benchmark, stacks up amongst the best.

“I understand that our services must be delivered with integrity and always with our residents and customers at the centre, and I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead.”

Mr Edgar has been working in local government for 20 years, and has been with The Hills Council for 12 years.

Councillors unanimously endorsed Mr Edgar for the general manager position at a recent confidential meeting.

The Hills mayor Yvonne Keane said Mr Edgar’s knowledge of the region and his involvement in helping the council become stronger made him a great fit for the job.

“While The Hills Council is one of the strongest in New South Wales, we must continue to innovate and improve to meet the challenges of the future, and we believe Michael will be a ground-breaking, focused and forward-thinking general manager,” Cr Keane said.

“His extensive knowledge of The Hills Shire Plan, our community’s strategic direction, and understanding of the challenges our shire will face in accommodating significant growth means The Hills will be in good hands for the future.

“The decisions we make now as councillors will set our community up for the next decade and beyond. We welcome Michael to the role and councillors are looking forward to continuing to work with him in his new capacity.”
