SPORTING clubs in The Hills region will be able to apply for funding to help them purchase a defibrillator.
The government is offering sporting clubs the opportunity to receive a 50 per cent co-funding contribution, which will make the life-saving device more affordable and accessible for organisations.
As part of the state government’s 2017-18 budget, the government will invest $4 million during the next four years to assist clubs in purchasing and maintaining automatic external defibrillators (AED).
Baulkham Hills MP David Elliott said having an AED at a sporting ground could help save a person’s life.
“The first eight minutes after a person has a cardiac arrest are the most critical and early access to CPR and defibrillation can increase the likelihood of survival by up to 75 percent,” Mr Elliott said.
“We will be rolling out more than 2,500 AED’s over the next four years, under the Local Sports Defibrillation Program, which will also see community members trained in how to use them.
“Having worked previously with St. John Ambulance, I know all too well the importance of early response times in the event of cardiac arrests.”
Sports Minister Stuart Ayres encouraged sporting clubs to apply for the program when applications open in October.
“With thousands of spectators and players attending sporting events around the state every week, having AEDs at those venues will save lives,” Mr Ayres said.
Forms will be available at sports.nsw.gov.au when applications open.
