It’s when Tropfest will return to Parramatta Park for the second time following this year’s inaugural success.

It was the first stop on founder John Polson’s visit to Australia when he arrived from the US last Tuesday.

“We’re here to take a walk around and see how we can use other parts of the park,” he told the Sun. “We want to change it up next year.”

He was joined by Multiculturalism Minister and Castle Hill MP Ray Williams to celebrate the 2018 Tropfest theme of diversity.

“Cultural diversity is an important aspect of our society’s fabric,” Mr Williams said. “My message is to not only apply but also to the broader community to support the message of diversity and inclusiveness.”

Mr Polson added: “The main message we want to push is that we want stories form all walks of ethnic backgrounds. We tapped into a new audience this year, where for the first time, 50 per cent of the 16 finalists were women. This time, we want to take diversity to the next level.”

Founded in 1992, Tropfest is the world’s biggest short film festival.

Entries open October 15 and close January 11. They must include a rose, this year’s signature item.

“Some of the best entries take a few days to make and are three to four minutes long,” Mr Polson said.

“My advice is to keep it simple, tell the truth and find your own voice.”
