The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop addressed residents in the Berowra electorate recently on the threat to international and regional security by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea).
More than 200 residents joined Ms Bishop and Berowra MP Julian Leeser at the event on October 5.
Mr Leeser said Berowra is home to more than 2000 residents with a Korean background and a strong interest in issues related to North Korea and regional security.
“North Korea presents a grave threat to our region,” Ms Bishop said. “I am pleased to see such a strong interest in Australia’s foreign policy and diplomatic activities.”
“I’m proud of the key role the Australian Government has repeatedly played in maintaining diplomatic and economic pressure on North Korea,” Mr Leeser said. “I will be maintaining an active involvement in developments on the Korean peninsula and will continue to speak out against the human rights abuses committed by the Kim regime and against its illegal weapons program.”
