The tenure of new NSW Swifts coach Briony Akle will begin against the Queensland Firebirds when the second season of the Super Netball season starts next April.

Akle, a Castle Hill resident and former player who started her netball journey with the Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association, signed with the Swifts last month for the next three seasons.

She said it would be a tough draw and she hopes the young Swifts can learn some lessons from last year.

“I think everyone can agree that each game in this competition is an even contest and that is what makes Suncorp Super Netball so exciting for players and fans alike,” Akle said.

“This club is steeped in history and the rivalry with the Firebirds is a big part of that.”

The Swifts and Firebirds clash will be part of a Queensland versus NSW double header with Giants Netball also playing the Sunshine Coast Lightning in a grand final rematch to kick off the season at Qudos Bank Arena, starting April 29.
