You can’t wipe the smile off Eloise Bingham’s face when you ask about her selection in the NSW PSSA netball team.
“I wasn't nervous playing at Tamworth because I didn’t expect to make it,” the 12-year-old said.
Eloise, of Cherrybrook, was selected in the Combined Independent Schools netball team earlier in the year and competed in the NSW Netball Championships in Tamworth from August 29-31.
From the three-day tournament she was then selected, alongside 11 other girls, to represent NSW at the Pacific Schools Games in Adelaide starting December 3.
Traditionally a wing defence and goal defence, the Pacific Hills Christian School year 6 pupil was put into the centre position and thrived.
“She’s never really played centre before but the CIS coach put her there and she played so well,” her mother Sophie, said. “I can’t believe she made the next level, I wasn’t expecting it either – she really had a great three days in Tamworth.”
Eloise is now looking forward to playing netball with her new team in Adelaide and seeing the other states play.
After the Pacific School Games Eloise said she will “keep doing [her] best, follow the path [she’s] on and keep trying out for teams”.
Her grandparents, parents and three older brothers will head to Adelaide to watch her represent the state.
