Up to 32 per cent of women at Sydney Uni colleges experience sexual harassment
As many as 32 per cent of women at University of Sydney colleges have experienced sexual harassment and 6 per cent of female college students have experienced actual or attempted sexual assault, with other college students making up the vast majority of perpetrators, a review of college culture has found.
The review, led by former sex discrimination commissioner Elizabeth Broderick, found that sexual misconduct, "hazing" and a problematic drinking culture persist at five of the university's six residential colleges, a number of which have come under fire for repeated incidents of sexual misbehaviour by students. Same-sex marriage passes the Senate in historic political moment
A bill to legalise same-sex marriage passed the Senate on Wednesday in a historic moment in Australian politics, setting up a final vote in the House of Representatives next week.
The bill breezed through 43 votes to 12, and the moment was met with a standing ovation in the packed public and parliamentary galleries. Read more.

One dead, two injured in rock slide in national park at Wentworth Falls
A man has died and two men are trapped with possibly significant injuries after a rock slide on the National Pass walking track in Wentworth Falls, an Ambulance media spokesman and National Parks has confirmed.
Police have confirmed that the three people involved “are not tourists”.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman told the Gazette one patient has been “confirmed deceased and two other patients trapped, at least one of them with serious, significant injuries”. Read more.
Thousands fleeced by sophisticated identity fraud syndicate: police
Sometimes they posed as doctors to trick pathology companies in releasing personal information on patients.
Other times they bamboozled banks and power companies with the right questions to confirm birth dates and other sensitive details on clients.
Or they simply used cash to bribe a Department of Human Services employee to look up the valuable details herself.
Detectives believe a "highly sophisticated" criminal network allegedly used a range of successful tactics to fleece millions of dollars out of thousands of unsuspecting people by taking over their identities to either steal directly from their accounts or rack up credit card debt in their names. Bali flights cancelled into fourth day as Mount Agung erupts
The normally bustling airport on the Indonesian resort island of Bali is a near- ghost town, dotted by anxious Australian tourists desperate to get home.
The Mount Agung volcano lies a fair distance - about 70 kilomteres away - but the threat it poses is very real, and visible.
Activity at the mountain has ramped up in recent weeks culminating with the cancellation of flights in and out of Bali this week due to a large ash cloud thrown up by the volcano. Read more.
Woman faces court over fatal Greenacre school crash
A woman has faced court for the first time since being charged over a crash at a Sydney school which killed two young children and injured many others.
Maha Al-Shennag was surrounded by a small group of supporters and shielded herself with an umbrella as she left her brief appearance at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday. Read more.
Seven arrested over Sydney identity theft and fraud offences
Seven people have been arrested as part of a joint-agency investigation into alleged identity crime offences.
The identity security strike team, a multi-jurisdictional initiative between the NSW Police Force and the Australian Federal Police raided properties in western Sydney from 6am on Wednesday.
Search warrants were executed at homes in Blacktown and Guildford. Read more.

Benji Marshall reckons it's a case of third time lucky.
Twice previously, Marshall reached out to Wests Tigers about the possibility of a return.
The first came after his ill-fated Auckland Blues stint. The second, also via his manager, followed his tenure with St George Illawarra.

Jessica Fox named Athlete of the Year at inaugural sport awards
Two-time Olympian and Leonay resident Jessica Fox has been named Athlete of the Year at the inaugural NSW Champions of Sport awards.
Presented at Rosehill Gardens on November 27, Fox defeated a star-studded field for the prestigious award including Olympic discus thrower Dani Stevens, Test cricketer Ellyse Perry, world champion diver Rhiannan Iffland, world number one croquet player Alison Sharpe, surf lifesaving beach sprinter Jake Lynch and Jillaroos rugby league player Simaima Taufa.
