Australian world champion marathon runner Robert de Castella knows a few things about health.

The former world record holder will visit Bella Vista next week to speak with locals about the importance of positive ageing through good health and exercise.

Retirement community Aveo Bella Vista will host the free event at Castle Hill Country Club on Tuesday, December 12 at 9.45am.

Mr de Castella, 60, said the ‘Journey to Retirement’ event had an important message for the aging population to maintain a healthy body and mind.

“You can’t blame how old you are for not looking after yourself,” he said.

“Indeed, it should be the opposite – as we grow older, we need to make our health a higher priority and undertake regular and varied physical activity, eat nutritious foods and have good friends who make you smile and laugh.

“It’s also about minimising those things we know that aren’t so good, like smoking, excessive alcohol, over eating and stress – investing in good health is the best investment you can make, and you can have fun while doing it.”

The event will also feature appearances from health professionals discussing how to maintain health into retirement.

It aims to inspire attendees to take their health seriously and be educated on differences in health they should be aware of into retirement.
