I’ve been working as the News’ sports journalist for 18 months and during my time, I’ve met some of the most giving, talented and spectacular athletes and supporters.
But I’m not alone – journalists before me covered special events and incredible athletes for those people who deserve to have their stories told. It has been an absolute privilege to showcase and celebrate your achievements.
The Hills is an incredibly vibrant area for sport with individuals and teams at all levels achieving astounding feats.
It’s hard to look past the Pennant Hills Demons’ unlikely premiership win in the Sydney AFL competition as a highlight. The emotion of the win and the stories that came out of it, they are something I’ll remember long after leaving.
Silimarly, talking with Chad Robinson’s fiancee Rani Morris and the Gremmo family about the Nathan Gremmo Memorial Shield match and Jersey Day will live with me.
One of the best things about this job is that the lives we are allowed into, become part of our story as journalists. The highs of victory and success, the lows of losses and tragedy, and everything in between, are now part of me.
And this job has changed my life forever with the people I’ve met, the work I’ve had the honour of producing and the community which embraced us.
I strongly believe everyone has an important story and it has been my pleasure to play but a small part in the bigger conversation.
I hope my work has been able to offer even a little inspiration to all those athletes who have inspired me every day and will continue to inspire me well into the future.
If I could say one thing to all athletes, continue to shoot for the moon because, as the quote goes ‘even if you miss, you'll land among the stars’. I have no doubt we’ll be hearing about many of you for years to come.
My time on the News has been a dream come true because I have had the opportunity to meet some amazingly passionate and dedicated people both excelling on the sporting field or clearing the way to allow the athletes to focus on the job at hand.
Thank you for letting me tell your stories.
