Bishop recognises Parramatta schools director

Australian educator Greg Whitby was presented with a Papal Knighthood by Bishop of Parramatta, Anthony Fisher OP at Catholic Education’s Silver Jubilee celebration on Friday.

The ceremony was held at St Andrew’s Primary, Marayong.

‘‘I am quite humbled by this recognition,’’ Mr Whitby said of the Knighthood in the Order of St Gregory the Great which was originally founded by Pope Gregory XVI in 1831 and is awarded to acknowledge an individual’s meritorious service in the church.

Mr Whitby is the Executive Director of Schools in the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta and leads a system of 78 Catholic schools.

He has held this role since 2005.

He was Director of Schools in the Wollongong Diocese from 1999 to 2005.
