Pippa Middleton's brother-in-law to-be was on The Bachelor

When you consider this, it becomes somewhat understandable that, within this tiny geographical area, sometimes the siblings of royals bump into and subsequently marry into the families of Bachelor contestants who used to date Stephanie Pratt from The Hills.

Such has occurred with the Duchess of Cambridge's younger sister Pippa Middleton and her recently announced fiance James Matthews.

James, 40, is the older brother of British tabloid gold Spencer Matthews, 26, a man who has been on three reality television shows, written an autobiography in which he vividly recounts having a sixsome, and will probably run a great stag's night.

After finding fame as a cast member on the posh man's reality show Made in Chelsea from 2011 to 2015, Spencer, whose parents own the exclusive Eden Rock resort in St Barths, made lothario his personal brand.

Consider some of his most memorable plot points:

1. Sleeping with his best friend's girlfriend (who, for added "scripted-reality" television drama, was his own ex-girlfriend).

2. Subsequently cheating on this woman and being slapped in the face by her friend at an otherwise quite lovely Christmas party.

3. The time he said to this same, poor woman: "It's f---ing hard to respect you when you allow me to cheat on you."

4. Edging out the same best friend from plot point 1 for a different woman three seasons later.

5. Doing a similar thing to another friend who he was giving relationship advice to, who happened to be the younger brother of the woman in plot points 1-3.

6. Cross-pollinating the show with the now (and, frankly, then) concluded US reality show The Hills by dating Stephanie Pratt and bringing her to London to join the Made in Chelsea cast.

7. Cheating on yet another girlfriend last year.

In his 2013 memoir, Confessions of a Chelsea Boy, Spenny alleged he had slept with over 1000 women (that's two a week, given he wrote the book aged 25 and the age of consent in Britain is 16), and includes the incredible humblebrag: "Being in the public eye unfortunately makes you a bit more attractive to the opposite sex."

In 2012 he made time for a stint on The Bachelor, where was left devastated after his chosen Bachelorette was pictured just days after filming wrapped kissing a cast member from – wait for it – Made in Chelsea's rival geographically-focused reality show, The Only Way is Essex.

Afterwards, he decided the best way to deal with this reverse Blake Garvey scenario would be for him to sledge the women presented to him on the show as not good enough.

"All I tried to do is be as genuine as I could with the girls I was provided," he told Digital Spy at the time. "I did what I could with what I had."

No one has dared produce a British season of The Bachelor since.

Spencer left the cast of Made in Chelsea at the end of 2015 to join the cast of I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!

He then prematurely left that show after reportedly being asked to leave by producers when they discovered Spencer, who underwent a considerable body transformation to appear on the cover of UK Men's Health in 2013, was addicted to steroids.

In a statement released after his departure, Spencer said he started taking the drugs to bulk up for a charity boxing match, but did not give himself enough time to wean himself off them before filming started.

It is now understood Spencer is clean. He will not be returning to Made in Chelsea and recently took a trip to Ethiopia for UK charity, Comic Relief.

The incredible thing about Spencer is that he could so easily have ended up like his brother James.

Before he signed on for Made In Chelsea, Spencer, who attended the prestigious Eton College like his older brother, also worked in finance.

YouTube videos from his pre-television days show Spencer reading FOREX reports as part of his role.

Despite their differences, Spencer does seem to be getting on well with the Middletons.

He is regularly spotted out with the Duchess of Cambridge's younger brother James and his partner Donna Air.
